On this one day tour to Mount Sinai and Saint Catherine, departing from Eilat, you’ll visit two of the most impressive and important sites in the Middle East. This remarkable tour will depart from Eilat in the early morning, traveling through Egypt’s Sinai desert to St Catherine. Climbing Mount Sinai by road, you’ll see the site of the Burning Bush and Well of Jethro’s Daughters. Arriving at St Catherine, you’ll tour the monastery including the famous skull room and olive grove, and understand the immense importance of this area to Jews, Christians, and Muslims.
Depending upon availability, we may have the chance to meet with Fr. Justin, an American monk who is in charge of the Manuscript Library of St. Catherine, the second largest library regarding the number of ancient manuscripts in the world next to the Vatican. We will have the opportunity to learn about this treasure and the conservation & digitalizing projects funded internationally and executed locally.
Before Departing Mount Sinai, we will enjoy a box lunch from St. Catherine before we head our way back to Eilat. If time permits, we will stop off at the Red Sea resort of Nuweiba with an opportunity for swimming or snorkeling.
After Crossing into Egypt with border assistance, meet your guide and drive south through Sinai’s Desert, arrive at St. Catherine area and check into the Monastery Guest-House, enjoy the peace and tranquility of this Holy ground walking around the monastery and the gardens. Have dinner and overnight.
Rise early if you want to enjoy the experience of climbing Mt. Sinai as Moses did thousands of years ago, and enjoy the most beautiful sunrise over the picturesque Mountains of Sinai
Then descend to have breakfast and tour of St Catherine’s Monastery, including the skull room and olive grove, a possible visit with a monk and the Manuscript Library. Box lunch or eat at the Monastery Guest House. Drive back toward the Taba border crossing, stopping at the beach in the resort of Nuweiba, if time permits
